If I were a pirate....

For the week of September 15th to September 19th we are taking a look at pirates. For the first pirate assignment, students brainstormed everything they know about pirates. After brainstorming and making a web, they had to answer the question: If I were a pirate...

Here are their responses:

"I will be the first pirate to ever have good teeth and a talking parrot. I would look for treasure with Lee. We would wear eye patches and would sing songs on the sea." Ashten

"Reagan the pirate is my friend so is Emma. My friend Emma and Reagan have parrots and they have very very white teeth. Then the bad pirates came. Their names are James, Chance, and Jacob. They attacked us. But we attacked them back until they cried in the end." Haley

"If I were a pirate I would sail the seven seas with my crew Haley, Emma and Elizabeth. One of them might get sea sick but they will get better. We will all have a pet parrot and we won't have an eye patch. Me and my crew will have good teeth. We will have a sign that says "NO BOYS! NO GREEDY BOYS!" Then all the boys will move to Canada and pick a seat in summer school. The boy's teeth will be yellow. At the end of the day we will go to my house and have a snack." Reagan

Sept 5th 2008

Today the 1st and 2nd grades from Nielson went to the airport to see the Stearmen and talk with the pilots. Our class met with Wayne who flies a Stearmen that was built in 1942. Friday was a little busy with everything going on, so we didn't have a chance to write about it yet. Check book soon for some though. In the mean time, here is a picture of our class with Wayne:

Class Pet

The second graders are reading a story titled "Ann's First Day". In the story Ann has just moved to a new town and a new school. Ann is comforted during the change by the fact that her old class voted that she could take the class pet with her when she moved. The student's were asked "Should a classroom have a class pet? why or why not" and "What would be the coolest class pet to have?"

Elizabeth said "The class should not have a class pet. Because it will distract the class."

Chelsey wrote "I know that you can't have a pet at school. It will run off and it will get lost. If the principal sees it you will be in detention and be in big trouble. I love pets but you can't have them at school."

Quincy wrote 'The class pet may get out of the cage when you are feeding him.. The class pet should be a dog because they are fun to play with."

Reagan wrote "We should have a class pet so we could teach him tricks. If I could chose the class pet it would be a black lab like my dog at home. It would he a boy dog."

"I had library and went out to recess. I ate ravioli in the gym and walked with my friends." Emma

"Hey I'm Reagan. Today I did library, math oh and graphs about my birthday and about my favorite food. I barely got to get any recess today. I worked on the stuff that was in my morning folder. Well good bye." Reagan

Welcome!

Welcome to Mr. Warnsing's second grade blog. Through the next year this blog will be used for students in my second grade class at Nielson Elementary to post daily blogs. The students will all prepare blogs from class assignments, writing prompts and varying questions. Then some of the works will be picked and shared with the world. They should be a great read and should show how much this young students learn through out the year. Check back often.

When the student is ready, the teacher will appear,
Mr. Warnsing
